“Gourmet Tokyo” Episode 25

It’s the first Gourmet Tokyo in a while, and wowaka is here to spell it out. How have you all been doing? Thinking about it, we’ve been continuing this article for a long long time now, the four of us have introduced so many different shops and foods. For me personally, the one that stuck out the most has to be my Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto episode. It’s the one were I made an original mini donburi, isn’t it. I haven’t gone to Nakamoto in a while now. I gotta go soon.

Then forth, the tour for our album ai/SOlate had ended, our collaboration tour nexUs had been announced, and right between these two events, I had a gaping amount of time off. So, without any previous notice, on about the last week of May I think it was, I had a sudden impulse, “I want to go to India!” and. India.

It’s not as if there was anything specific that deeply affected me but, how do I explain it, hmmm, I really can’t speak of anything besides my senses and my eurekas but, before it’s all said and done I think that savoring the moment is seriously so important in life y’know, to not think too hard. And so I chose to go alone. I stayed for the whole first week of June. It was a very good experience, but I’ll talk about the contents of my journey at another point (Or maybe by the time this article is posted I’ll have already talked about it).

As such, this article may be called Gourmet Tokyo but, I think I’ll take this opportunity to do a little Gourmet India. If it makes you hungry everybody then let’s go to India.

The hottest time of the year for India is June, and if an unaccustomed Japanese man were to, for example, put food from stalls or tap water into his stomach, he would immediately get food poisoning for the rest of the day apparently. I received that tip prior, so I mostly steered towards tourist restaurants or cafes were I could eat with ease. Yet when I do that, no matter what, I seem to always go for the curry.

I think I had curry about 4 times total. Of course they were all delicious as they were but, I think I’m going to showcase a more niche situation with this one.

There, with that said, my first shot is curry. This is the provided meal that I got during my flight to India. Considering I flew under an Indian airline, of course curry would appear. A petty good amount too.

In the end it’s just airplane food so I didn’t really expect much but the chicken curry was tasty in a medio~cre way. A lot of spice-savvy curry shops have been opening up in Japan too so, I think anyone could eat this without repulse, surprisingly. If I were to compare it with Japan’s conventional curry, the spicy component was stronger, the taste and saltiness was weaker, I would say.

Ah, the dessert chai cream like thing was disgustingly sweet. I ate it but. After that the light meal that they brought out, the tiramisu, was grossly grossly sweet. Is this much normal I wonder, I thought, and then the sweet foods I ate in India were all seriously sweet too. I guess such is the way of India. They like sweet things huh.

This is the snack I bought to compliment my beer. When I went into a teensy kiosk, the fellow there asked me “Are you okay with spicy foods?”, I responded with “I love them”, and so he recommended me this. It was a pretty stinging type of spicy snack. It was tasty yeah. I want to eat these in Japan too. Also a beer called Kingfisher is apparently famous in India, I drank that. It was refreshingly good. It had a flavor I think the Japanese would like. I wonder if they have lots of them selling at Indian markets.

This was the breakfast I received when I rode the long-distance train from Delhi to Jaipur. There’s many vegetarian people in India, so when food is prepared, you’ll frequently be asked veggie or non-veggie. This was from the non-veggie menu. Eggs, ketchup, bread, butter. Simple. The flavor was extreme~ly bland. Well, it was morning so it was just right eh just right huh.

By the way the veggie menu here was something like potatoes, beans and croquette I think. I wanted to try that one too.

Uwa oh no I can’t show it all! The sandwich and the tandoori chicken and the super yellow colored light meal they gave me on the national flight I took there or the Japanese-esque bar I fell absolutely in love with on the last day or the McDonald’s I went to for commemoration or…! I’ll talk about it all someday! Maybe Gourmet India will continue next time? What do you think? wowaka out!
